FAQs

What is FLI?

FLI is a popular acronym used in higher education for students who are first-generation and low-income students.

What is a first-generation student?

There are various definitions for this. We use a common federal definition, which is a student who neither parent received a bachelor’s degree from a US institution.

Is combed cotton the same as regular cotton?

Unlike regular cotton, combed cotton is softer because it doesn't have impurities or protruding threads of regular cotton. It’s also stronger because the combining process removes short fibers that are prone to fraying. This makes combed cotton softer and more durable, so you can enjoy your FLI Socks for years to come.

When is the FLI Scholarship application available?

The scholarship application is available in the spring and exact dates will be posted on our website as the date gets closer.

How many scholarships are provided?

Our goal is to provide as many scholarships as possible, and with your support, we will. In our first year, we were able to provide scholarships to four deserving students, making them our inaugural FLI Scholars. Check them out in the FLI Scholars section of our website.

How much goes towards scholarships?

Our commitment is to provide at least 15% from our proceeds to our scholarship fund.
